Tintin - Poster

Labels: ,

The forthcoming Tintin movie reads like a match made in heaven. Directed by Steven Spielberg - who, in his better moments, is still one of the best filmmakers in Hollywood - with a script written by Steven Moffat, Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright, and starring Jamie Bell as Tintin, ably supported by Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Daniel Craig, it sounds like Belgian artist and writer Hergé's much-loved character is in safe hands.

The promotional poster shown here for The Secret Of The Unicorn, the first in a proposed trilogy of Tintin movies, certainly plays its cards close to its chest. Using a piece of artist and writer Herge's original artwork on a stark white background, there's no hint whatsoever of what we can expect from the finished movie. With over a year to go until the film's released, it's likely that Spielberg's production team is reluctant to give us a glimpse of how the finished film will look.

Nevertheless, we've got high hopes for Spielberg's take on Tintin, and The Secret Of The Unicorn is as good a book to adapt as any. A personal favourite of Hergé's, it's among the strongest of Tintin's adventures, and sees the reporter's sea-faring sidekick Captain Haddock (arguably the most likeable of all the books' characters) at his drunken, belligerent best.

The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn is due for release on 23 December 2011.
