Anna Faris to Star in a Remake of 'Private Benjamin'

Private Benjamin
“Private Benjamin” is being called up to duty again.
New Line is remaking the seminal 1980 comedy, reconfiguring it for the new century as a starring vehicle for Anna Faris.
Amy Talkington is in discussions to write the new take, to be produced by Mark Gordon.
“Benjamin” starred Goldie Hawn in a star-making turn as a spoiled woman who joins the Army after her husband dies during sex on their wedding night. One of the top-grossing movies of that year, “Benjamin” was hailed for tackling women’s issues and earned three Oscar noms — for Hawn, supporting actress Eileen Brennan and original screenplay (Nancy Meyers, Charles Shyer and Harvey Miller).
The title joins “Vacation” and “Police Academy” as the latest titles from the Warner Bros. library that New Line is remaking.
The new take will set the story in contemporary times with modern wars as the backdrop. Insiders say the studio doesn’t want to poke fun at the men and women in the service or take political potshots, but rather focus on the empowerment elements and build on the fish-out-of-water comedy.
Michelle Weiss is overseeing for the studio.
Talkington, repped by UTA and the Arlook Group, penned a remake of 1980s classic “Valley Girl,” which is set up at MGM. The scribe has shown she can pen a female voice with Fox’s “Queen of the Rodeo,” about teenage girls competing for the title of rodeo queen, and “Devil in the Junior League,” a Universal comedy centering on a spurned wife who is forced to transform a vulgar woman into a role model for a women’s organization.
Faris, one of the few comediennes who can open a movie, is set to star in her latest comedy, “What’s Your Number?” which is to begin shooting this spring. She’s repped by Gersh and Raw Talent Management.

The Hangover 2 - Original Cast Signs On

Even before The Hangover opened, executives at Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures had commissioned a script for another installment. Who knew it would take six months of headache-inducing negotiations to make it happen?
Finally, the participants have completed talks and are ready to sign deals to reprise. I’m told that Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms will each be paid in the vicinity of $5 million against 4% of first dollar gross. Director/producer Todd Phillips will be paid around $10 million against 10%. For Phillips, there are also escalators and bonuses that insure if the sequel does anywhere close to the original’s $467 million worldwide gross, Phillips will not make less than his income on the original. That meter is still running, and it has passed the $50 million mark.

Eco-Friendly 3D Glasses Coming to a Theater Near You

With 3D movies popping up faster than the Cheshire cat, a bioplastic company has seen the opportunity in making bioplastic 3D glasses.
Cereplast Inc., a maker of bioplastic derived from plant materials based in the Los Angeles area, announced that it will be working with Oculus3D to debut the world's first biodegradable/compostable 3D glasses.
The eco-friendly glasses are expected to be available for distribution this summer, according to ShoWest, the motion picture distribution and exhibition industry's annual expo.
The glasses come too late for the main runs of green blockbuster Avatar and blockbuster Alice in Wonderland, which together have required the use of some 10 million pairs of 3D glasses made with traditional fossil fuel-based plastic.
While those glasses were collected at movie theaters and reused - they eventually end up scratched. Many will end up in landfills, where the plastic they're made of persists in the environment for many years.
By contrast, the Cereplast 3D specs can be expected to degrade or be composted in a landfill, depending on conditions, in about six months. The glasses will be made with Ingeo® Poly-lactic acid, otherwise known as PLA plastic. PLA plastic not only biodegrades, it generates less carbon pollution than plastics made with petroleum during production.
"By using Cereplast's resins in our 3D biodegradable and compostable glasses we can now help the entertainment industry reduce its carbon footprint and provide movie theaters with smarter choices for both affordable 3D systems and compatible 3D eyewear," said Marty Shindler, Co-founder and CEO of Las Vegas-based Oculus3, in a statement.

What's Your Number
EW's Hollywood Insider reports that Andy Samberg and Zach Quinto will join the already cast Chris Evans and Anna Faris in the R-rated romantic comedy What's Your Number? The story focuses on a woman (Faris) who re-visits her ex-boyfriends in the hopes of finding the man of her dreams with the help of her womanizing next door neighbor (Evans). Samberg and Quinto will play two of the men she revisits in her quest to find love. Doesn't sound too bad.
The deals aren't official yet, but negotiations are looking good, so expect them to show up in the end. While it takes a lot of originality for a romantic comedy to really draw me in, it's usually the R-rated ones that do the trick. Director Mark Mylod ("Entourage") is working from a script by Karyn Bosnak who also wrote the book 20 Times a Lady on which the script is based. And with Faris leading this one, I'm very much looking forward to a raunchy romantic comedy . Even if she's hasn't made some of the best comedies, you have to hand it to her for being one of the few actresses who has consistently focused on comedy.
