Batman 3 - Release Date Confirmed

Thanks to ShirtlessLocke for the heads up.
Batman fans can start marking their calendars for a return trip to Gotham City, as Warner Bros. will release "Batman 3" into theaters on July 20, 2012.
Production Weekly reports on the release date announcement, settling "Batman 3" into the same weekend frame that its predecessor inhabited back in 2008. The film will hit theaters two and a half months after Marvel Studios' "The Avengers" debuts in May and roughly two weeks after Sony's "Spider-Man" reboot launches in early July.
A few months ago, a report emerged suggesting that David Goyer and Jonah Nolan were in the midst of writing the screenplay for "Batman 3." "The Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan confirmed the news in an interview suggesting that his third trip to Gotham City would be his last.
"I'm very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we've done with the characters," said Nolan. "My brother has come up with some pretty exciting stuff. Unlike the comics, these things don't go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful. Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we're telling."
While there are no current casting and crew announcements on "Batman 3," leading man Christian Bale previously stated that he's signed on for a third outing. A rumor emerged earlier this month that Emily Blunt is interested in playing Catwoman, though there has been no confirmation of the report thus far.

Just read this tidbit on First Showing which apparently originated on IESB.
Best part of the whole Superman reboot is that the Nolan brothers and David Goyer will be a part of the development.
WB and Legendary Pictures are planning to release The Man of Steel at Christmas 2012, and apparently DC Entertainment has started to figure out the logistics and chronology of their cinematic universe to lead into a Justice League movie.

Thor - Opening Scene Revealed by Leaked Script?

Apparently someone got their hands on a draft of Thor and has revealed the potential opening. Of course scripts and drafts are changed all the time, so there is a chance this will not be the actual scene, but if you are still interested in reading it click on the button below.
Thanks to Iceman815 for the heads up!
The film opens up in the best possible way; the introduction of the Nine Realms by a 'booming voice' against a black screen. Embossed words describing each of the worlds begin to appear as the camera opens on the first.
The three Norse spirits Verðandi (present), Urðr (fate) and Skuld (future) narrate the creation of the realms and how the different manner of creatures in them came to be. First, the camera flies over Muspelheim followed by Hel and Niffleheim. The first character introduced Ymir, the first of the Frost Giants and his family in the realm of Jotunheim. You then pass over the realm of the dwarves, Svartalfheim, and the elves, Nidavellir. The camera flows through Midgard (Earth) and we see man exulting Odin in his temple. Finally, the camera pans through Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge, to the the Hall of Asgard, which is filled with the Aesir. You see a glimpse of the Einherjar guard and winged Valkyries overhead, in what could only be Valhalla. Odin and Gaea are introduced while they are
. . . umm, conceiving a child. That child turns out to be Thor. Movie title appears.
The scene darkens and ends, when it opens again we are in 'present day' (centuries after the last scene). We find ourselves on the Asgardian border, where Thor (now an adult), his adoptive brother Loki, Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg and Balder (who is actually an older character, as apposed to the comics) are riding thunderously on their horses. They have been tasked on a mission to find Ivaldi, the Dwarf king of Svartalfheim. As they ride to the passageway between realms, we see a giant forge and three blacksmiths at work. They are creating the mighty Mjolnir, to present to Thor upon his arrival...

JJ Abrams New Movie to be a Collaboration with Steven Spielberg

Industry News
Vulture has learned that J.J. Abrams has picked his next movie, and it’s both a tribute to and a collaboration with Steven Spielberg. An insider tells us that Abrams is just now finishing a script described as “a tip of the hat to [Spielberg’s] movies of the 70’s and early 80’s.” We’re also told that Abrams plans to “roll up his sleeves and direct the script himself” by early this fall for Paramount Pictures, where he's based. (After, of course, he ends ABC's Lost, oversees Fox's Fringe, launches NBC's Undercovers, and produces Mission: Impossible 4 and a new Rachel McAdams and Harrison Ford comedy, Morning Glory, at Paramount. And then eats breakfast.)
Plot details are top secret - as if there’s any other kind of plot detail in Abramsland — but we’re told that like Spielberg’s Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and E.T., the project will deal with everyday people whose personal relationships are tested when they are thrown up against extraordinarily fantastic - and possibly other-worldly - events. (Could it involve sharks from outer space that befriend young, nerdy children of divorce? Will it find some way to redeem 1941? The mind reels!) Our sources tell us that Abrams is in discussions with Spielberg, and insist the DreamWorks co-founder will be involved in some capacity, whether as an executive producer or at least as an adviser, since “J.J. wants to make sure Steven is properly paid homage to. This is really an interpretation of some of Spielberg’s earlier films, but done in a personal way.” (Interestingly, in 2005, just before the release of M:I 3, Abrams was attached as a director to The Good Sailor, based on the true story of a seventh grader's obsession with the scene in Jaws when Quint recounts the torpedoing of the U.S.S. Indianapolis.)
We’re told Abrams’ script does have a name, but like the Abrams-produced 2008 monster movie Cloverfield, the title is being kept under wraps for maximal marketing impact. It will also have a low budget for a studio movie, just like Cloverfield, which cost around $25 million. (It won't, however, be shot in that movie’s shaky handheld style: Happily, we’re told, you can leave your Dramamine patch at home.) “It’s kind of the anti-Avatar,” explained one source, “Not that [J.J.] doesn’t love that movie or special effects movies - he has a real facility for effects. But he really wants to make this, and the way to do that is to be fiscally responsible.”
Finally (and please sit down, because this will surely astonish you), both Paramount and DreamWorks spokespersons denied any knowledge of the new Abrams project.ance of Shrek Forever After, which is scheduled to be released on May 21, 2010.

Iron Man 2 - Mixed Early Reviews

So the time has finally come to see if Iron Man 2 can live up to the hype and carry the Marvel and Avengers Franchise.
Well yesterday was the world premiere and the early reviews are mixed. I am sure that we need to wait for some of our fellow Movie Blog sites to release their reviews to get a really good feel, but The Hollywood Reporter's review was not so pleasant:
"Everything fun and terrific about 'Iron Man,' a mere two years ago, has vanished with its sequel. In its place, 'Iron Man 2' has substituted noise, confusion, multiple villains, irrelevant stunts and misguided story lines. A film series that started out with critical and commercial success will have to settle for only the latter with this sequel."
At the same time Rotten Tomatoes currently has the movie at 79%. I am sure this rating will change as more reviews come in and it will not stop any of us from going to see the movie.
I suspect most will love it and it will be big opening weekend.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 - Scheduled for 2013 Release

How to Train Your Dragon 2,
Release Dates
"2010 is off to a strong start, thanks in large part to the performance of How to Train Your Dragon, which – having grossed nearly $375 million to date in worldwide box office – has become DreamWorks Animation's next franchise. We plan to release the sequel theatrically in 2013," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation. "3D continues to have a tremendous impact on the industry at large and we are now looking forward with great anticipation to bringing Shrek Forever After, the final chapter in our beloved Shrek series and the first in 3D, to audiences across the globe next month."
How to Train Your Dragon, which was released on March 26, 2010, contributed $59.7 million of revenue to the quarter, driven primarily by merchandising and licensing activities. It has reached approximately $180 million in domestic box office and approximately $195 million in international box office to date.
The Company's 2009 release, Monsters vs. Aliens, contributed $24.6 million of revenue to the quarter, driven primarily by domestic pay television. The film reached an estimated 7.5 million home entertainment units sold, net of actual and estimated future returns, by the end of the first quarter.
The Company's 2008 releases, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Kung Fu Panda, contributed $19.2 million and $5.7 million of revenue to the quarter, respectively, with the former driven by international pay television and home entertainment and the latter driven primarily by home entertainment. Through the end of the first quarter, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa reached 13.7 million home entertainment units sold worldwide, net of actual and estimated future returns.
Library and other titles contributed approximately $52.9 million of revenue to the quarter.
Costs of revenue for the quarter equaled $106.2 million. Selling, general and administrative expenses totaled $23.5 million, including approximately $6.1 million of stock compensation expense.
Additionally, the Company recorded an expense of approximately $8.2 million, which includes a charge of approximately $2.1 million resulting from an adjustment to prior year taxes, related to a tax sharing agreement with a former stockholder. Combining the amount due to the former stockholder with the Company's income tax provision of approximately $4.6 million results in an overall equivalent tax rate of 37.0% for the quarter.
The Company also provided an update to its share repurchase program. As of April 27, 2010, the Company has repurchased approximately 0.9 million shares for approximately $37 million. The Company has approximately $113 million remaining under its current authorization.
The Company's second quarter results are expected to be driven primarily by the performance of Shrek Forever After. The Company expects its full year 2010 results, which will likely be heavily weighted toward the second half of the year, to be driven primarily by the continued performance of How to Train Your Dragon and the performance of Shrek Forever After, which is scheduled to be released on May 21, 2010.
