Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds to Team Up for Buddy Cop Movie

Labels:

Just because a whole slew of projects already have Ryan Reynolds attached, that's not going to stop him from adding another project to his future slate. RiskyBiz reports Reynolds is going to team-up with Bradley Cooper for a buddy cop action comedy from screenwriter Sheldon Turner who was nominated for an Academy Award for writing Up in the Air with director Jason Reitman. The currently untitled film would see Cooper and Reynolds as two San Francisco cops and friends, whose fathers were once partners on the police force. Things get interesting when they have to bring their fathers out of retirement to help crack a new case.

Surely plenty of its comedy will come from the difference between the two generations of police officers, but with Turner writing, there's bound to be some genuine drama in there somewhere, too. Apparently the tone is something akin to a Lethal Weapon police comedy and will be in R-rated territory. Apparently this project was once attempted five years ago (back then it was called Blowback) and had Dwayne Johnson attached to star.

The Hobbit - Sylvester McCoy to be Cast?

Labels: , , , ,

Ex 'Doctor Who' Sylvester McCoy is said to be in talks for a part in Peter Jackson's upcoming 'Hobbit' movies. The 67 year old Scottish actor who played the popular timelord from 1987-89 told the Argyllshire Standard that he was in contention with one other actor for an important role in the 2 part fantasy epic.

“I am being cast in The Hobbit,” he said. “We’re currently in negotiations – there are two of us under consideration. It’s not the Bilbo role, but could be bigger.”

Lord of the Rings fansite The One Ring.Net is suggesting the role McCoy is likely to be cast in is that of the the wizard Radagast the Brown.

In the meantime the troubled 2 part movies are still yet to get the full greenlight with studio MGM still working to sort out a takeover. Director Peter Jackson is touted to take over the vacant directorial role left by Guilermo Del Toro.

Going the Distance - Trailer, Poster and Press Release

Labels: , ,

GOING THE DISTANCE in UK cinemas from 10th September 2010.

Starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long

Erin’s (Drew Barrymore) wry wit and unfiltered frankness charm newly single Garrett (Justin Long) over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City. But when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently become meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end. And while Garrett’s friends, Box (Jason Sudeikis) and Dan (Charlie Day), joke about his pre-flight calorie-cutting and his full-time relationship with his cell phone, they don’t like losing their best drinking buddy to yet another rocky romance. At the same time, Erin’s high-strung, overprotective married sister, Corrine (Christina Applegate), wants to keep Erin from heading down an all-too-familiar road.

But despite the opposite coasts, the nay-saying friends and family, and a few unexpected temptations, the couple just might have found something like love, and with the help of a lot of texting, sexting and late-night phone calls, they might actually go the distance.

Academy Award®-nominated documentary filmmaker Nanette Burstein (“On the Ropes”) makes her feature film directorial debut with “Going the Distance.” The film is written by Geoff LaTulippe and stars Golden Globe Award winner Drew Barrymore (“Grey Gardens”), Justin Long (“He’s Just Not That Into You”), Charlie Day (TV’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), Jason Sudeikis (TV’s “Saturday Night Live”), Jim Gaffigan (“17 Again”) and Golden Globe Award nominee Christina Applegate (TV’s “Samantha Who?” and “Jesse”).

The film is produced by Adam Shankman (“17 Again”), Jennifer Gibgot (“The Last Song”) and Garrett Grant (“Hairspray”). Dave Neustadter, Richard Brener and Michael Disco serve as executive producers.

Burstein’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Eric Steelberg (“Up in the Air”), production designer Kevin Kavanaugh (“Whip It”), editor Peter Teschner (“Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”), costume designer Catherine Marie Thomas (“The Proposal”) and composer Mychael Danna (“(500) Days of Summer”).

A New Line Cinema production, “Going the Distance” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, beginning 10th September 2010.

The Freebie - Trailer

Labels: , , ,

Official Synopsis
Darren (Dax Shepard) and Annie (Aselton) have an enviable relationship built on love, trust and communication-they still enjoy each other's company and laugh at each other's jokes. Lauren Shuler Donner Updates Magneto, Wolverine 2 and Deadpool!!

Labels: , , ,

For those who do not know who Lauren Shuler Donner is? Well she is one of the main producers for these Marvel films and recently did an interview with our friends over at Crave Online.

Here are some quick updates on the various projects:

On Magneto in reference to X-Men: First Class:

“No. You know, there’s internal discussions but probably not. It kind of got incorporated into this one, a lot of it.”

So basically no Magneto anytime soon because the story was incorporated into X-Men: First Class

On Wolverine 2:

“Well, we have another Wolverine that we’re going to do, The Wolverine Saga, with Mariko, The Japanese Story, that miniseries. But that we pretty much follow the comic pretty closely, as closely, really closely.”

On Ryan Reynolds Involvement with Deadpool:

He is so committed to it that he worked with the writers on the script. Even though he’s doing Green Lantern, he’s stayed involved in that project. I’m hoping we’ll get it off the ground next year.

On How Reynolds Playing Green Lantern Affects Deadpool:

It’s very different. It’s like Harrison Ford doing Star Wars and Indiana Jones. DC and Marvel are different universes with different movies. …the more popular and well known he is the better.

Scream 4 - Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell Join the Growing Cast!

Labels: , ,

Though shooting has already started up in Ann Arbor, Michigan last month, USA Today discovered a couple more additions to the cast of Wes Craven's new sequel Scream 4. Apparently young starlets Kristen Bell (Fanboys) and Anna Paquin ("True Blood") will appear, but likely only in the form of expected cameos of characters who will quickly bite the dust. Drew Barrymore was the first cameo who (spoiler alert!) ended up dead meat in the opening sequence of the original Scream. Her execution was an homage to Janet Leigh's surprise death in Psycho, and what better way to raise the stakes than with a couple of lovely young girls?

Movie Review - The Last Exorcism

Labels: ,

There is nothing like a horror movie. Only in a horror movie do you know you are about to get the bejeezus scared out of you, but, the good ones will still scare you, despite telling you it's coming, and you love them for it. I do love me some good horror movies, but I don't care for the gross factor that seems to be mistaken for scary as of late. As a result, most horror movies don't scare me, so when I saw the trailer for the Last Exorcism, I had my doubts.

The Last Exorcism is about a minister, played by Patrick Fabian who has a crisis of faith. He realizes, however, he is very good at spreading the lords prayer, and as a result, is just faking it every Sunday without heart. He also hates exorcisms because he sees perfectly healthy people being killed by a religion he no longer understands. So, he vows to go on one last exorcism with a film crew to show the sham, and maybe save a life at the same time. What follows tests everything both the Preacher and the audience know to be real.

There are good and bad things about this movie, and they can often be the same thing. First off, this movie is very clearly the birth child of two very specific movies, The Blair Witch Project and The Exorcist. It's good and bad, in that both movies I enjoyed, but both had their strong and weak points, and this film has all of those. It has some of the shaky cam, which was surprisingly stable for the most part, which is used quite effectively by the camera crew. The film also has the Exorcist parts as well, in the following of the Preacher, and his quest for faith. Both seemed cliched in this movie, and often feels like they just slapped the two movies together and said 'go,' but if you liked these movies, you'll feel right at home here.

The crown jewel of this movie lies in the Preacher. He is completely believable, and often humorous in his lack of belief in the church. In fact, the first half of the film or so is all about setting up a very real man in a very real world. There are no freaky girls, no demons, nothing scary whatsoever. What follows, is his journey, and the good part is, the character never loses that reality.

I think the other part that is used effectively is the camera. In a movie with a very clear cameraman, the camera is very important, and in one deliciously brutal scene, the camera operator is the most creepy part. There are exceptions, sure, like the tried and true running through the woods scenes, but overall, it's used very effectively.

The films main flaw is in the pacing. Unlike one of my favorite films, Paranormal Activity, this film doesn't have a steady buildup of tension, rather it has none for the first half, cranks the tension up to eleven, turns it off, cranks it back up, and turns it off, and finally turns it all the way up for the finale. While it can be effective, it leaves the first half of the film boring to those wanting to be scared from beginning to end, and only parts of the second half interesting. If you are a fan of documentaries, however, the first half is quite entertaining, because it displays and makes you believe you are watching a very interesting documentary on this Preacher and his attempts to show the world that exorcisms are more about the mental aspect than slaying demons.

Overall, I enjoyed the documentary feel, which seemed very convincing, and I enjoyed the lead actor, but it's something that just feels too much like an obvious combination of two very over-done ideas in something that will leave you shaking your head at the end. If you liked Blair Witch and the Exorcist, however, I think you'll enjoy yourself.

Spy Kids 4 - Jessica Alba in Talks to be Cast as Lead

Labels: ,

Jessica Alba is in negotiations to star in Robert Rodriguez’s “Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World.”

The Dimension movie is a reboot of sorts for the moneymaking franchise, which initially starred Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara as the kids of superspy parents (Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino). Rodriguez wrote and directed each installment.

Vega and Sabara are no longer kids -- Vega is nearly 23 and recently engaged -- but Rodriguez wanted to continue the series.
The new movie centers on Alba as a retired spy who has been reactivated. The actress, mother of a toddler in real life, will be playing the mother of a baby and two preteen stepchildren.

The actors cast in the preteen roles will be the new Spy Kids.

Other roles seeking to be filled include Alba’s husband, a slightly nerdy investigative reporter (might I suggest Borys Kit?), and the villain, known as the Time Keeper, whose goal it is to stop time.

It is expected that Banderas, Vega and Sabara will return in supporting roles.

Like most of Rodriguez’s movies, “Kids” will shoot in Austin. The movie, with a budget of less than $30 million, is eyeing a start next month.

The picture, which also has been known as “Spy Kids 4: Armageddon,” will be in 3D.

The new “Kids” marks the third time Alba has worked with Rodriguez.

Angry Birds to Become First Mobile Game Made Into Movie!?

Labels: ,

Wow. As we all know Hollywood always looks to everything and anything for inspiration and when they started remaking comic books into movies it was cool. When we heard that movies were starting to be made based on video games we were intrigued. Then came childhood board games like Monopoly and Battleship, perhaps we did not like the idea but now comes word from Variety that the popular iPhone mobile game Angry Birds could be made into a movie!?

A movie is just one potential component the makers are working on but the whole deal would be for toys, comic books and a TV show.

If they can pull this off it would be just awesome for them but I can't even imagine seeing a movie based on Angry Birds.

The game has over 6 Million downloads so they already have a potential audience and that is what sells sometimes.

So what do you think? Have you ever played Angry Birds? I have and it is crazy addicting.

X-Men: First Class - Update from Brian Singer

Labels: ,

Big update on X-MEN: FIRST CLASS that just came from Producer: Bryan Singer - who tells me he's been working on X-MEN: FIRST CLASS for over a year now and with the looming August 31st, filming date approaching - he wanted to clarify some of what it is they're doing.

First off - the film takes place in the 1960's. John F Kennedy is the President of the United States. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X are on TV doing marches. There is a spirit of a hopeful future that was prevalent in that time. We will see how Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr met - and how they dreamt of a future with Mutant & Human kind. They're going to be in their late twenties. Xavier - as played by James McAvoy will not be in his wheelchair to begin the film - but we will see how he wound up in a wheelchair. I asked if McAvoy would have a nice shiny chrome dome - and folks. We're going to see Professor X when he still had hair. We'll see McAvoy and Fassbender's Magneto formulate what it is they are attempting by creating the X-MEN.

Now Bryan wanted us to know this is not the conventional FIRST CLASS comic - but rather a new beginning for X-MEN. Set in the 60s - Vaughn is technologically inspired by JAMES BOND's tech of the time. The costumes will be far more comic bookish than we've seen before - and while Scott and Jean aren't here - Cyclops' brother Alex Summers aka Havoc will be, as played by Lucas Till.

With January Jones and Kevin Bacon playing Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw - we will be getting the HELLFIRE CLUB. I commented that the HELLFIRE CLUB has always felt like something that it would be wrong to modernize, as it felt as though it were something specific to the swinging Hefner era of the 60s... and Bryan said that's exactly why they're making use of the HELLFIRE CLUB... the dress and the costumes associated with that glorious period of the X-MEN... belong in the 60s. I asked if Kevin Bacon would be sporting that little ponytail with the ribbon - Bryan laughed and said, "We'll see".

In regards to the cast, Bryan was especially excited to land Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast. Nicholas was set for FURY ROAD, but their start date shifted which opened up his availability for FIRST CLASS. Also - Rose Byrne is playing Moira MacTaggert, I liked her in KNOWING. And I think she's fairly perfect for Moira. The cast list over on IMDB is correct (with the exception of the Rosamund Pike rumor).

Looks like filming will begin with Xavier at Oxford University in the 60s. And Bryan is excited that the film is going to have a much more international feel than the prior X-MEN movies. They'll be shooting in England & the United States - and they'll be representing other locales around the globe as well, but would only tell me that Russia (aka The Soviet Union... CCCP) will be amongst them. He doesn't want to show all the cards just yet. But the International flavor will give the film a more James Bond vibe... I get the idea that this is going to be something quite special.

How can I say that based on a quick conversation with Bryan? Well... folks, this is the first time that we're going to get a silver age MARVEL story. That's incredibly exciting to me. Hearing Bryan actually saying that the costumes will be far more reflective of what we saw in the comics - well that is exciting. But more than that... I just can't wait to see young vital versions of Xavier and Magneto played by excellent actors in their prime.

But more so... This is the time for Matthew Vaughn to shine. I loved KICK ASS, but it didn't have the namebrand of X-MEN or the scope that those stories have. Here, everything that Vaughn has can be put on display. Having Vaughn work in a James Bond-esque period - that was the period that the X-MEN first came to life. There's potential for something amazing.

There are characters that we're not being told about though. Bryan said so. And we can all speculate as to who they are. We know we're going to have Darwin, Young Raven Darkholme, Banshee, Havok, lil Mystique, Azazel, Emma Frost, Beast, Xavier, Magneto and a female Angel. So... who's missing? Well - I'm kinda hoping for Donald Pierce and Harry Leland - myself. How about you?

Oh, I just remembered, I asked Singer when we can expect our first look at some of the costumes and the look they're going for and he told me to expect something in about a month, if not sooner. So seems like we'll begin to have a clue pretty soon.

MILF - Carla Gugino Cast as Lead

Labels: , ,

There's plenty of people, male and female alike, who'd agree that Carla Gugino is quite a beauty. Though she played mother to Malin Akerman (another hot lady) in Watchmen, Gugino is actually only seven years older than Akerman. Now 24 Frames is reporting she'll take on another motherly role in MILF, but the role probably isn't in line with the dirty thoughts that are filling many fanboys' heads right now. In this case the acronym actually refers to "Mothers I'd Like to Fight" with a revenge story that follows a woman recently released from prison who returns to the street to take care of unfinished business. That's one bad mother!

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - Casting News

Labels: ,

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed to the Sunday Times Magazine that he'll be joining Tomas Alfredson's upcoming adaptation of John Le Carré's "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy."

The actor is slated to play Peter Guillam, a protégé of protagonist George Smiley, a British Intelligence operative (to be portrayed by Gary Oldman) whose task is to delve into the world of Cold War espionage and root out a Soviet mole in the Circus, the highest echelon in the British Intelligence Services. The Peter Morgan-scripted adaptation also features the likes of Colin Firth, Michael Fassbender and Ralph Fiennes in roles for what is shaping up to be a very promising Cold War-set spy thriller in a currently 'Bond'-less cinematic environment.

While relatively unknown to global audiences, Cumberbatch has been a staple on British television for years and most recently starred at the titular character in the BBC's contemporary adaptation of 'Sherlock Holmes.' He has also featured in Joe Wright's "Atonement" and has a upcoming a role in the Steven Spielberg currently lensing "War Horse."

Speaking about the part, Cumberbatch says, “'War Horse' is a thrill, and an incredible CV filler, and Spielberg is amazing...but to me this is....such a grown-up role.”

Shooting on 'Tinker, Tailor' is set to begin this October in London.

X-Men: First Class - Rose Byrne Joins Cast as Moira MacTaggert

Labels: , ,

Hollywood Reporter just announced that actress Rose Byrne is currently "in negotiations" to join the cast of Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, which begins shooting in London at the end of this month. Byrne will reportedly be playing Moira MacTaggert, the love interest of Charles Xavier (played by James McAvoy), who we also actually saw briefly in X-Men 3 (she attended Professor X's funeral - sorry for the spoiler). While Moira isn't a mutant herself, she's a scientist who studies mutants and is an authority on genetic mutation. I'm loving this cast, Byrne is a great actor and is very easy on the eyes.

X-Men: First Class - Oliver Platt Joins the Cast as the Man in Black?

Labels: , ,

Briefly: This week, expect a casting update for X-Men: First Class every day. It’ll be like a mutant advent calendar, where we open little doors that reveal who’s cast in small to medium sized roles, hopefully leading up to the reveal of an actor for Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, the last of the film’s leads.

For now we’ve got news, via Deadline, about Oliver Platt joining the cast as a non-mutant character called The Man in Black. Not a lot of info on the character at this point — I don’t even see info in the Marvel Wiki about the guy, so if this is a small character from recent X-Men lore, please offer up info in the comments. But I’ll take Platt in just about any role.

Tintin - Poster

Labels: ,

The forthcoming Tintin movie reads like a match made in heaven. Directed by Steven Spielberg - who, in his better moments, is still one of the best filmmakers in Hollywood - with a script written by Steven Moffat, Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright, and starring Jamie Bell as Tintin, ably supported by Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Daniel Craig, it sounds like Belgian artist and writer Hergé's much-loved character is in safe hands.

The promotional poster shown here for The Secret Of The Unicorn, the first in a proposed trilogy of Tintin movies, certainly plays its cards close to its chest. Using a piece of artist and writer Herge's original artwork on a stark white background, there's no hint whatsoever of what we can expect from the finished movie. With over a year to go until the film's released, it's likely that Spielberg's production team is reluctant to give us a glimpse of how the finished film will look.

Nevertheless, we've got high hopes for Spielberg's take on Tintin, and The Secret Of The Unicorn is as good a book to adapt as any. A personal favourite of Hergé's, it's among the strongest of Tintin's adventures, and sees the reporter's sea-faring sidekick Captain Haddock (arguably the most likeable of all the books' characters) at his drunken, belligerent best.

The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn is due for release on 23 December 2011.

Terminator 3000 - Production News - UPDATED

Labels: , ,

UPDATE - Hannover House has been sent a Cease and Desist Letter after the news broke earlier today, so it looks like this won't be going ahead at present.

Hannover House, the entertainment distribution division of Target Development Group, Inc., has entered into a feature film development venture with Vancouver-based Red Bear Entertainment, for Terminator 3000, envisioned as a $70-million dollar budgeted, 3D animated feature film based on the characters and situations introduced in the original Terminator feature. Hannover House C.E.O. Eric Parkinson previously served as C.E.O. of Hemdale Home Video, Inc. and Hemdale Communications, Inc., and handled the distribution of the original Terminator feature.

Story details for Terminator 3000 are being kept under close wraps, but the writers and production team have a stated goal of minimizing violence in order to obtain a PG-13 level of material.

Hemdale produced and distributed director James Cameron's original Terminator feature, but released the sequel rights in 1990 to Carolco, which later transferred the rights to ultimately end up under the control of Halcyon Media. Santa Barbara based Pacificor, LLC prevailed in the most recent auction and transfer of rights to the franchise in January, and retains approval and licensing authority over the proposed Terminator 3000 project.

Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment will release details of the production timing, financing and principal production personnel later this year, in advance of a proposed January, 2011 start.
