I have a question for you. Where were you when you first started reading (or watching) Harry Potter? What mindset where you in? If you haven't been caught up in the phenomenon of Harry Potter, when was the first time you heard about this series?

I got attached to this series a bit later than most die-hard fans, right around when the third book was released. At that time, I saw people having "Potter Trivia Competitions" and "Quidditch Matches" and I had to see what all the fuss was about. I'm glad I did.

I also have to attribute my desire to work with film and video to the first Harry Potter movie. The visual effect of the moving picture frames was amazing. I couldn't seem to figure out how it worked! (Until I took a simple video production class.) Still to this day am I amazed by the creativity of the movies in their ability to produce fantastic special effects.

I could talk for hours about my obsession with the Harry Potter series, but I am here to write a review, so let us get started. This review will be a bit shorter than normal, due to a lack of time. I'll make it worth your time though.

I have a pet peeve, where people say that movies are nowhere near as good as the books they are based on. Well, 90% of what is in books has an impossible time transferring to movies without a billion dollar budget for the movie. With that being said, I will not reference back to the books in my review. You're welcome. The only thing I'll say, is that there are a lot of differences with the book.

The movie started out immediately after the first half ended. I had a hard time with this, and it took me awhile to get into the movie because of this. If I had watched the first one right before, I am sure this would have been the perfect beginning. I personally would like to have seen a bit more of a recap of what happened, just so I had an idea of what to expect for the two hours in the theater.

It seemed like there was a lot less time put into the special effects of the movie, especially with 3D models closer towards the end. Without going into too much detail, I feel that they spent a majority of their budget on 7.1, and realized that they needed to make some cut backs for 7.2. Did it take away from the movie? No. I just noticed because I am picky about these things.

The soundtrack was beautiful, and complimented the story without pulling the audience's attention. For the most part that's the point of an orchestral score for a movie.

The acting felt very natural. I guess after playing a specific character for almost 10 years you might get used to who he or she is. Greatest dramatic performance goes to Ralph Fiennes for his portrayal of the downfall of Voldemort. Greatest comedic performance goes to Helena Bonham Carter for having to act like a specific person, and pulling it off. Greatest performance of a person playing multiple roles in the movie goes to Warwick Davis, he is just awesome in general and I love watching him in movies.

I guess all in all, I liked part one a bit more than part two, but it was a good ending to this fantastic series. This is a movie that I could watch over again, but not as many times as I did part one. As I said before, I reccomend watching part one before going to the theaters to avoid confusion. Also, don't rely on information from the books for the movie.

P.S. If J.K Rowling happens across this review of the movie. Don't write another sequel. You've finished the story, and I would rather not hear a new story about the next generation of wizards.
